The Mission

We are a gospel-centered church that seeks to know and LOVE God : LIVE out the gospel and : SERVE God with our lives.

The Vision

There are 3 questions that outline a simple process and goal: LOVE : LIVE : SERVE.
The process is the goal, and the goal is the process to experience the gospel resulting in a life of worship.

The 3 questions are:

Do you know and love God?  -LOVE
• We believe this is the place to start when asking what a church is all about. When Jesus was ask what
the greatest commandment was, He responded by saying, “You shall love the Lord your God with all
your heart, all with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matt. 22:37, & Deut. 6:5).
• Those who know and love God will serve Him from a heart of gratitude rather than fear and religious
duty.
Therefore, it is our prayer that people will not only attend church but know and love the God who
created them; He provided a means for reconciliation through Jesus’ sacrifice of blood on the cross.
• Our weekly corporate gathering will focus on the good news that God has made a way for all who
have sinned to be redeemed, to know and love Him.

Who really knows you? – LIVE
• When you read the prayers of Daniel or David, you can hear the heart of men who have an authentic
relationship with God. This authenticity with God is appealing because God intended us to be real
and unvarnished with Him.
• Authenticity with God leads to and promotes authenticity with others who know and love God.
• Many people live busy lives of deep loneliness and longing. God desires for us to live in real, hearty,
vigorous relationships with each other (Eph. 4:25-32).
• Our Life Groups are regular meetings of 3-5 individuals (or couples) where life’s joys and struggles
are shared, prayer for each other and friends takes place, and the Bible is studied and applied.

Are you doing what you were born to do? - SERVE
• Ephesians 2:10 says we were born in Christ with specific tasks designed for us before the
foundation of the world.  This divine partnership is an unspeakable gift of grace.
• God wants us to discover our spiritual gifts and employ them as good stewards of His generosity
(I Pet. 4:10).  In doing so, the Lord is glorified, Christians are fulfilled and energized, and those who
do not know the Lord are attracted to Him.

THE SWEETER SONG

There is a story in Greek mythology of Odysseus and the Sirens. Odysseus was warned that as he and his men sail past the island of the Sirens, they would be enchanted by the song of beautiful women singing on the jagged rocks. Many sailors had lost their lives trying to swim toward the Sirens and ultimately died on the rocks.  Because Odysseus wanted to hear their song, he had his men put wax in their ears while he was tied securely to the mast of the ship.

In another Greek myth, a related story is told of how Jason of the Argonauts hired Orpheus, the greatest of all musicians and singers to sing a sweeter song than the Sirens. As the Sirens sang, Orpheus pulled out his harp and began to sing a sweeter song that drowned out the enchanting lure of the Sirens, and they sailed by in safety.  When we look at the rapid pace of life and consider how quickly we will be standing in the presence of the Son of God, we are amazed how many stories we have heard of shipwrecked lives.  Lives ruined on the rocks of pornography, alcoholism, and marital unfaithfulness are scattered all across suburbia, and every now and then you will hear the tragic story of an adult or student taking his or her own life.  But we suspect that countless stories of lives ruined on less obvious rocks are never told.

The Source is located in the suburbs of Chicago.  Our houses are built in what ten years ago were cornfields.  In talking with our neighbors, we hear over and over again a similar story of good people who graduated from college, took a job, and began to climb the ladder.  They had a few kids, and now life is so busy that the joy is gone.  Not far under the surface, there is a sense of longing and loneliness.  It is as if the promise of a new home, a good job, two kids, and a dog is not all that it’s cracked up to be and simply has not delivered what was promised.

What does this have to do with church planting?  We believe the gospel is the sweeter song, and Jesus is the one who sings it.  We live in an area that hears the sound of the sirens singing all day, every day; the song enchants people to believe that if they will abandon all for the sake of “success”, they will be satisfied. The success offered is a new house, new-ish cars, nice clothes, everything your kids ever wanted, and vacations at the beach in February.  This is a mold that presses down on everyone in one way or another but especially hard in the suburbs of Chicago.  Hebrews 5:9 speaks of Jesus as “the source of eternal salvation” for all who turn to Him in obedience away from their sins. He not only saves us from our sins but continues filling and refilling us each day until finally we come home to be with Him forever in heaven. By His death on the cross, He accomplished for us a way to be restored to holy God. He is the only one who can save us, satisfy us, and bring us into the presence of God the Father.  He does this by His grace alone, which means we cannot compel Him to love us more or less by our behavior. The Source Church will sing this sweet song to the people of Oswego and the surrounding communities with the prayer and expectation that God will redeem many broken lives and spare many from the rocks of destruction. Please join us in this prayer and in this song.

THE TARGET

The Suburbs of Chicago
For the past several years, the southwest suburbs of Chicago have seen a population surge of tremendous growth. Ten years ago, what used to be cornfields have now become housetops.  All the trappings of suburbia have come with the population growth, retail stores and restaurants have sprung up on every corner, and life is moving at 100 MPH.   Marriages are failing at an alarming rate, domestic abuse and credit card debt is at an all-time high, while teen and adult suicide is on the rise. At the same time, many mainline denominational churches throughout the country are dropping in attendance, and the influence of Jesus is diminishing.

OSWEGO, ILLINOIS

Oswego is a town of approximately 29,000 situated in the heart of Kendall County. Both the town of Oswego and Kendall County have doubled in size since the year 2000. Many of the southwestern suburbs of Chicago experienced similar growth.  Oswego borders similar suburbs including Naperville, Aurora, Montgomery, Plainfield, and Yorkville which all share similar demographics and the suburban culture.

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS
• Oswego and Kendall County are home to an enormous number of commuters who either work in Chicago or one of the
surrounding cities. The area is home to such companies as Caterpiller, Menards, and AT&T.

YOUNG FAMILIES
• 29.1% of the population of Kendall County is under age 18. The school system alone has 1,800 employees and has been
overwhelmed with new students from K-12.

Total population: 29,012
